Can you pass the test? P1

Can you pass the test? P1

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you — unless, of course, you fail the test?

Rather than demanding proof (dokime ) that Christ was speaking through Paul (v 3), the Corinthians ought to be examining and testing (dokimazo ) their own selves. The repeated heautous  (“yourselves”) is in each case emphatic by position.

Paul continues like this: “Don’t you know yourselves [heautous ] sufficiently well to recognize that Christ Jesus lives within each of you [Rom 8:9] and that therefore you are in the faith?”

Although for the sake of emphasis he adds “unless, of course, you fail the test [adokimoi ],” he does not believe the Corinthians are counterfeit and knows that no Corinthian is likely to form such a conclusion about himself.

1 John 2:1

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

No one is sinless, we all sin, you can not go through a day without sinning.

1 John 2:2

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

We need Jesus; with His sacriface we have cleasing of sin. Only through Him; no one else; no other way.

1 John 2:3

We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.

Some will say when we accept Jesus as our saviour and then need to do nothing, but that is a lie.

1 John 2:4

The man who says,  “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The deeds we do is proof we are in Him, therefore, if we do nothing how can we be in Him?

1 John 2:5

But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:

How can we become complete? ONLY in obedience.

1 John 2:6

Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Notice the words: ‘ claims ‘ and ‘ must ‘ not if you want to. If you do not try to chande the words then you must heed to them.

1 John 2:7

Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.

Nothing is new but now we have ab explanation of them.

1 John 2:8

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

It is not really a new command but combined and in reference to Jesus.

1 John 2:9

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.

It still comes down to ‘love’. If we love Jesus we MUST love our brother.

1 John 2:10

Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.

1 Peter 4:8

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

1 John 2:11

But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.

1 John 3:15

Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.

1 John 2:12

I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

Our sins have been forgiven and if we do not aheare to Scripture and continue to sin as we were what concequences will there be.

1 John 2:13

I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father.

Hebrews 10:16

“This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”

We ALL know right from wrong and that there IS a God.

1 John 2:14

I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Job 1:7

The LORD said to Satan,  “Where have you come from?” ¶ Satan answered the LORD,  “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.”

Yes; we can defeat Satan with the help of Jesus.
