Fatherhood of God P1

With Christmas coming shortly I though I would give a message about the Fatherhood of God.

It will be in two post as it is a little lengthy.

—————————-

FATHERHOOD OF GOD ( Father — Son — sons )

The sense that God is father by means of creation…

Genesis 1:26-27

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Malachi 2:10

Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another?

Acts 17:28

‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

Father is an analogy used in several senses.

—father of Israel ( by election )

Son…

Exodus 4:22

Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son,

Deuteronomy 14:1

You are the children of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave the front of your heads for the dead,

Isaiah 1:2

Hear, O heavens! Listen, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: “I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me.

Isaiah 64:8

Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Jeremiah 3:19

“I myself said, “‘How gladly would I treat you like sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.’ I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn away from following me.

Jeremiah 31:20

Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I have great compassion for him,” declares the LORD.

Hosea 1:10

“Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’

Malachi 1:6

“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty. “It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name. “But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’

firstborn…

Exodus 4:22

Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son,

Jeremiah 31:9

They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel’s father, and Ephraim is my firstborn son.

Father of the king of Israel ( Messianic )

Psalms 2:7

I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.

Acts 13:33

he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: “‘You are my Son; today I have become your Father.’

Hebrews 5:5

So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.”

—a loving parent…

Hosea 11:1

“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

—a father (metaphor)…

carries his son

Deuteronomy 1:31

and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

—disciplines

Deuteronomy 8:5

Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

Proverbs 3:12

because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.

—provision

Deuteronomy 32:1-3

Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!

—will never forsake

Psalms 27:10

Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.

—loves

1John 4:10

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Hebrews 12:6

because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.”

—friend/guide

Jeremiah 3:4

Have you not just called to me: ‘My Father, my friend from my youth,

THE LOVE THAT GOD THE FATHER HAS FOR US CAN NOT BE EXPLAINED ESPECIALLY THE ATTITUDE THE WORLD HAS FOR HIM.

HE IS LOVE, LOVE THAT WE DON’T FATHOM BUT TAKE IN FAITH AND LOVE HIM WITH OUR HEARTS IN THANKSGIVING.
