Once upon a time…

Titus 3:3

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.

John 5:44

How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?

(to be glorified, honored) which leads to pride in ones self

Man weights the deeds, but God weights the intentions.

John 13:34

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

agape – active love not just words but deeds of love

Love does not keep a ledger of the sins and failures of others.

Romans 12:10

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

devoted – loving dearly

The measure of our devotion is the measure of our sacriface.

honor – respect, specialness

Honor is not made in a crisis; it is onlt exhibited.

Romans 12:16

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

in harmony with – tranquillity, in agreement.

Harmony rule the day when Christ rules the mind.

do not be proud – high, mighty, arrogant.

You can’t glorify yourself and Christ at the same time.

conceited – excessively high opinion of oneself

conceit is the devil’s college.

Romans 13:8

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

debt – to owe, be in debt, be obligated.

The debt we owe God is payable to man.

Romans 14:13

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

judgment – pass judgment on, condemn

A man should give a lot of thought to a sudden decision.

Romans 15:7

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

accept – to partake, to welcome

To touch the heart of another, use your heart.

Romans 15:14

I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.

instruct – to warn, admonish

To instruct is to learn twice.

1 Corinthians 1:10

I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.

agree – to settle on by common consent.

An agreement is a deal which neither party needs to put it in writing.

2  Corinthians 13:12

Greet one another with a holy kiss.

greet – to give greetings

All brothers and sisters send their greetings.

Galatians 5:13

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.

serve – to serve (as a slave)

Want the best? give your best.

Ephesians 4:2

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

humble – modesty

Humility is the triumph of the mind over flattery.

gentle – meekness

The meek trust in the name of the LORD.

patient – forbearance, internal and external control

Patience is waiting without worrying.

bearing – to put up with, endure

Enduring in the grace of the knowledge of Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

kind – easy, good, loving, benevolent

The way we treat our neighbor is the way we treat God.

compassionate – tenderhearted

Compassion offers whatever is necessary to heal the hurt of others.

forgiving – to give grace, cancel (a debt)

Forgive your enemy before they are dead.

Ephesians 5:19

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

speak – talk

Speak and sing the truth in Christ.

Ephesians 5:21

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

submit – subordinate, be subject to

The one who comes from above is above all.

The next segment we will look at more of what this word “love” means.
